In exciting news for the coming future of curriculum at WCC, it has been announced that International Languages will be returning to the College in the coming years! While international languages had been run at the College for many years in the past, they had been replaced with the Darug program over the past 3 years.

Feedback on the removal of languages has been an important issue in student voice, as the Student Representative Council showed a strong desire for the return of languages. It is exciting to see that our SRC has had an impact on the school’s curriculum, and that student voice as a whole is represented well at our College.

While the Darug program originally replaced the old languages program, it is yet to be announced whether the reintroduction of international languages will be the end of this program. However, Mr Koch has stated in a news post that “the timing and the structure of the program is being reviewed to ensure it best achieves the aims of our Reconciliation Strategy.” This shows that the College is still committed to its reconciliation plans, regardless of the reintroduction of international languages.

The reintroduction of a mandatory languages course will begin for Year 8 Students in 2024, followed by Xplore courses and HSC programs in upcoming years. French will be the first language offered in this program for 2024, and other languages may be added in upcoming years.

We Are Chief Designer Alex S (Year 12) said “I am glad that they are returning, but I wish it was earlier”, commenting on the difficulty of the current languages program for the HSC.

It is exciting to see a future of William Clarke College shaped by student voice, and hopefully this program will expand further to give our students a deeper understanding of the vast international world around us.

Surely this means the revival of international school excursions right?
