This just in. We Are interrupting your daily lives with an important news bulletin. We Are revealing the faces behind the phrases you are reading and seeing each week. Our amazing design team have given visage to the unknown figures. We go behind the scenes to figure out who this mysterious team of student voices is.
In our deep dive into the We Are team, we give their names, profiles, roles, a brief description of who they are, why they joined We Are, and why you should join and participate in the great wonder of student voice.
Patricia P, Editor in Chief

Year 12 student studying Biology, Investigating Science, English Advanced/Extension, Science Extension, and French. I’m a Christian, passionate about baking, and Editor-in-Chief of We Are, with hopes of becoming a psychologist in the future.
I didn’t join We Are because I had some perfectly planned passion for journalism; I actually joined because I hated ads. That frustration turned into my first article, “Show Addicted or Ad Addicted,” and, at the time, I didn’t think much of it. I submitted it expecting it to disappear into the void. It didn’t!
The most important thing We Are gave me was a voice. In my first few months, I hesitated to share my thoughts. But gradually, through writing, editing, and eventually stepping into leadership, I gained the confidence to use my voice and found a purpose for it. Here, I can share important stories and help inform not just the campus but people as far away as the UK. Being part of We Are has shown me I can make a real difference and contribute to the community.
We Are matters because it gives students something most people our age rarely get: a genuine voice that people actually listen to. Not a simulated, teacher-marked version of our thoughts, but something real and public. It turns ideas into influence. This is more than just being in class, submitting an assignment that disappears after it’s graded, with We Are, you get to be shaping conversations across the entire school community.
We refuse to box student journalism into the predictable. This is more than a noticeboard for boring, surface-level updates; it’s a platform where we as students can interrogate ideas, challenge assumptions, and explore the things that actually occupy our minds. Whether it’s mental health, identity, culture, media, faith, or the strange realities of growing up right now, We Are gives those topics the depth and seriousness they deserve.
Every article, every design, every idea contributes to something bigger than yourself. You’re leaving a trace on more than just our school, but the global community. We Are assumes we all have something worth saying, and then gives us the platform to prove it. Years from now, We Are becomes a record of what students cared about, questioned, and believed in during their time here. Being part of that is precious.
Marziyah P, Assistant Editor-in-Chief

I am a year 12 student, currently studying Economics, Business Studies, Visual Arts, English Advanced and Math Standard. In my free time, I enjoy painting, doing karate ad going for walks.
My advice for younger grades is to enjoy the opportunities you are given and always try to make really good memories.
I joined We Are because I always wanted to voice my opinions about situations going on in the world around us, as well as in the school community. Also, We Are gave me the opportunity to connect and learn with students in different grades.
We Are is important to me because it is the medium in which all students’ voices are heard, and we are able to, as a team, bring light to not just issues but triumphs within the school community.

Samuel B, Assistant Editor in Chief

A driven and ambitious student who engages in a wide variety of areas of College life (English, Music, Drama), a Creative Arts Prefect and a future-focused person who believes in saying ‘Yes’ to everything!
I wanted to be involved in student voice and journalism at WCC, and help to further extend the possibilities and strength of the whole student body.
We Are is such a fantastic way for students to learn valuable skills: effective communication, meaningful connections, and crafting deeper and multifaceted opinions. I believe that this is so important as a student.
Armaan G, Senior Editor

I am a year 11 student who does mainly STEM-related subjects like 3 unit math, 2 unit English, biology, chemistry, business studies and society and culture. I enjoy watching long shows and want to work in a chemical-related field (medicine, chemical engineering). My advice for the younger grade is to take as many opportunities to do as many activities as you can, so later on, you can build on those habits in your HSC years.
I wanted to join We Are because I loved the student voice aspects of it, as the content you can write is more relaxed than other school article websites I’ve heard about. I wanted to become an editor, especially because I’d like to edit the content that students read, so that as many articles as possible can be published, meaning people who spent a long time writing on their passion can actually have it published in a short amount of time.
We Are is important to me because it bridges the gap between academic pressure and creative freedom, giving us a space to be heard, and it fosters a genuine community between students.

Keira F – Multimedia Coordinator

I am a person who loves to create things in ways that people often don’t think about, videos, animation etc. I am currently doing two major works alongside my other subjects, which are timber and music, and I’m also playing in the musical.
I wanted to make sure that people who weren’t confident or didn’t like writing or drawing still had a way to be a part of We Are
In my opinion, We Are is great because we have the ability to have all these different types of media on a public platform.
Lauryn D, Designer

I’m a designer for We Are doing Visual Arts, Ancient History, English Extension 1 & 2, and Maths Standard. I like writing, drawing and playing the drums 🙂
I’ve always been interested in journalism and the process of telling a good story to connect a community.
I think We Are is also a great place to show off student creativity, and allows students to express their genuine opinions.

Peyton Freeman, Chief Contributor

I love science subjects, especially Biology and Chemistry. I love watching movies and playing soccer, both inside and outside of school.
I love writing articles about things I’m interested in, especially regarding entertainment. And I think it’s a great platform to allow for student voice.
I think it provides a really good source for any student to voice their opinion or even write about an interest or a hobby.
Olivia Ritchie, Chief Contributor

I am Olivia Ritchie. I am currently in year 11 and am most passionate about Legal Studies and want to be a lawyer when I’m older. I play soccer for Kellyville Kolts and love to paint.
I wanted to join We Are because I felt it would be a great opportunity to practice my writing through topics that I am passionate about. I know this is not a chance offered at all schools, and knowing I may not get the chance to contribute to something like this again, I could not pass it up.
We Are is important to me because it reminds me that writing can be an enjoyable experience. The majority of writing I do is for school assignments, so being able to creatively write about the topics that interest me is important in growing my love for writing.
I think We Are is great because it gives all students at WCC the opportunity to contribute to the college through so many different mediums (writing, art, media, editing, etc.), which is super rewarding. I also think We Are is a great platform since it gives students the ability to voice opinions and give perspective on both school-centred topics (like no phones in the mornings) and topics beyond the college (like new music, events, and even political takes).
Do you want to write something for We Are? Do you want to design? Or is multimedia your strong suit?

You can write imaginative stories, opinion pieces, an essay on your favourite topic, poetry, or a paragraph or two. There’s no need to be shy or scared of writing a full article.
