William Clarke College’s Secondary Talent Quest is, from what I’ve heard at least, the topic on everybody’s tongue!
For all you creatively gifted individuals, this is an opportunity to showcase whatever you want. There is no script dictating your performance, you are free to get up and perform to your heart’s content.
I am confident in saying that every single person has a spark in them, just waiting to ignite. Whether it be short films, singing an emotional song, stand-up comedy, an ensemble band performance or dancing in an inflatable dinosaur costume while grooving to ‘Gangnam Style’.
Don’t let anyone snuff your spark. Sure, they can try all they like but who is the one actually standing up and doing what they love? Who is the one leaving their comfort zone and having a heck of a good time doing it? Because it sure isn’t the person in your grade giving you a hard time and calling you names simply because you chose the elective of drama, music or dance.
I just have one question for everyone to ask themselves. Who are you to tell someone else that their passions’ and willingness to put themselves out there is “cringe” or “weird”?
So, let’s all create a positive culture around the creative arts at our school. Let’s all support each other, because man, wouldn’t you have such bragging rights over the fact someone in your grade can play the trumpet? Or how someone in your grade writes poetry, or can land a back flip, or can memorise and recite an entire monologue?
Every single person has a talent, and Asha and I have set out on a Quest to find this talent in each and every one of you and cannot wait to see them all on the stage, under the bright lights of glory!
