I am a Christmas lover, I think everyone is at heart. I love Christmas dinner, the music and the people. Christmas is the only time of year where the whole family gets together and as much as my extended family gets annoying I appreciate the 2 days of uninterrupted family time. I have a brother who is 27 he has to travel for work, and I don’t see him that much but on Christmas I get to spend TWO whole days annoying him. For me Christmas is about the joy others bring to me and that I can bring to them. So let me get to my point, in Australia there is no snow on Christmas, it is hot and its time to play sports with your family. Most Christmas’s I spend on a beach playing really aggressive volleyball with my brothers and dad. In recent years I have seen this trend of people trying to follow this winter, white, blue and silver aesthetic for Christmas. Its cute for people who don’t spend there Christmas in 40 degree weather. What makes Australian Christmas so good is the hot weather and the tacky colours.
Growing up Christmas has always followed the theme of red and green with ugly tree decorations and even worse present wrapping but in recent years Christmas decorations have gotten less colourful and more bland. I know people are reading this going you’re a year and a half from 18 why do you care do you not have bigger things going on in your life and to that I say are you allergic to fun and joy? Do you hate magic and everything light and fun? Do you?
I know I am closer and closer to adulthood everyday and Christmas will get less and less fun but this removal of ugly decorations has only made this worse. I want to bring back wearing Santa hats on the last day or school or writing Christmas cards for all your friends and teachers. The most silly fun traditions have been lost. BRING BACK UGLY CHRISTMAS, the sad beige baby aesthetic shouldn’t ruin Christmas and aesthetic shouldn’t always be societies main focus. Christmas is a holiday of weird family traditions and stupid jokes and most importantly ugly decorations.
