Week 2 of Term 4, and We Are is just getting started for another year, but we could do with one more thing… YOU.
Are you bursting with opinions? Love writing about sport, politics, fashion, culture, or something completely out of the box? Got design skills? A passion for storytelling? A voice that deserves to be heard?
We Are is WCC’s bold student media platform, and we’re here to amplify pretty much every voice, every perspective and every idea. Whether you’re a seasoned writer or have never put pen to paper before, We Are welcomes you. No experience needed. No pressure. All we need is your ideas and your passion. Even if you just want to write one article, that’s more than enough. Anyone from Years 7 to 12 can contribute!
Meet our 2025-2026 team!
Behind the scenes of We Are is our group of student leaders who are deeply passionate about bringing this platform to life, led by:
- Patricia P & Shikha S – Your Editors-in-Chief, keeping everything to do with articles feeling fresh and powerful.
- Matilda S – Our Creative Director and the artistic engine behind the visuals and aesthetics.
To show you how easy it is to share, here’s some “get to know you” questions so you can meet the minds behind the magic.
Matilda: (Creative Director)
- If you could live in any fictional world for a week, which one would you choose and why?
I would choose to live in a dystopian world.I’m fascinated by how these settings strip life back to its rawest essentials and force people to discover who they are when comfort, order, and predictability are gone. The intensity of those worlds exposes the truth of character — fear, hope, loyalty, courage — and there’s something powerful about the way resilience is tested in every moment. It would be frightening, but also strangely liberating, to live in a space where survival and identity become the core of the story. - What’s a hobby or skill you’ve always wanted to learn but never tried?
Figure skating. I love how it combines athletic strength with artistic expression — it’s both performance and discipline, storytelling and control. There’s a sort of quiet power in the ability to glide and move with grace on ice while holding so much precision beneath the surface. It’s like dancing in an environment that shouldn’t be possible, and I’m drawn to that challenge. - What are you most looking forward to in We Are this year?
I’m looking forward to creating video content that captures moments rather than just events — the atmosphere, the emotion, the unspoken parts people don’t always notice. I want our media to feel alive and to reflect the heart behind what we do, not just the visuals. I’m excited to tell stories through film, to collaborate creatively, and to help shape a visual identity that feels intentional and meaningful. - If you could have a conversation with any historical figure, who would it be and what would you ask?
I would choose Joan of Arc. I would ask her how she held onto her conviction when every voice around her questioned her, doubted her, or tried to silence her. She stepped into courage that didn’t make sense to the world, led with purpose beyond her age, and trusted a calling others couldn’t see. I would want to know what it felt like to stand firm in faith when the cost was everything, and how she carried that certainty with such fierce humility. - What’ some place you’ve never been to but feel drawn to visit someday?
Hamilton Island — there’s something grounding about places that feel separate from the rush of everyday life. The stillness, the water, the open space — it feels like somewhere you could just stop and breathe, notice the world, and reconnect with what actually matters. It’s a place that looks like rest in its purest form.
Shikha: (Editor In Chief)
- What’s a song or movie that you think everyone should experience at least once?
Twilight – It is genuinely peak entertainment The entire twilight saga will always be my comfort series because everyone gets their happy ending. It’s a combination of a great storyline, an amazing yet underrated soundtrack and the characters have these skilfully crafted archetypes I feel drawn to.Although there are so many things about the movie that do make me ‘cringe’ the entire series is unlike anything else and is a journey everyone should experience at least once. - What’s a small thing that always makes your day better?
We often discard breakfast, making excuses like we don’t have enough time or our stomach doesn’t react to food well in the mornings. But breakfast is truly the most important meal of the day and makes my day instantly better.
- What are you most looking forward to in We Are this year?
I’m looking forward to seeing how much we grow as a team and as a website. I know that we have a team of skilled editors, designers and creators and I am excited to see where this team takes us and grows this sight not only within the school but also globally.
- What’s the most unusual or memorable food you’ve ever tried?
The most memorable food I’ve ever tried would definitely have to be the foods of my childhood. I remember that when it was someone’s birthday they would bring in those jelly cups with a freddo frog dipped in it, although now looking back on it im realising how bizarre that combination really was. I also remember the tiny teddy cars and the tea cup biscuits, and its crazy how excited I used to get when I saw these.
- What is the best concert you’ve ever been to?
As a certified Swiftie its only fitting that my favourite concert has been the eras tour. The reputation tour comes in close second but Taylor really outdid herself in the eras tour.
Patricia (Editor In Chief)
- What animal best represents your personality? The general consensus when I’ve asked others to assign my personality to an animal has been that I’m an owl. I love taking in my surroundings and thinking deeply about things, and also, I’m a bit of a night owl anyway! I think it would be very cool to twist my head around almost 360 degrees.
- What’s a movie you could watch every day? Probably Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle (2017). For me, it’s one of those movies that never gets old, and I quite love the idea of getting sucked into a video game world.
- What are you most looking forward to in We Are this year? I am looking SO forward to the Primary Takeover and I think it’s genuinely one of the coolest things we do! It’s when our younger primary students get a chance to contribute their own articles on absolutely anything they want to the site. They always have the most creative, honest, and unexpected perspectives, so I can’t wait to see what they come up with.
- What is your favourite subject currently? I’m surprisingly enjoying biology. There’s something fascinating about understanding how our bodies and the natural world work. It’s wild how much goes on behind the scenes of everyday life, and learning about it makes the world feel a bit more magical.
- What is your favourite random fact? Your brain is constantly eating itself! This happens in a process called phagocytosis, but don’t worry, it isn’t harmful, but actually helps preserve your grey matter.
If you’re keen to write, design, collaborate, or just be part of something exciting then this is your chance to jump in!

We meet every Thursday at recess in the We Are room (Branwhite Level 1, next to the Heads of Year office), and we’d love to see new faces. This is where all of our ideas are born, our stories are pitched, and our creativity really takes off.
We Are is more than just a co-curricular activity. It’s a movement.
We Are is built on one powerful belief:
Every student has great ideas and strong passions to share, and a voice to share them
Isn’t it time you started using your voice a bit more?
