Donald John Trump: 45rd and 47th President of the United States, TIME’s 2024 Person of the Year, Actor, Real Estate mogul, and Influencer (with 37 MILLION followers!). America loves him – and so do we! He’s the gift that keeps on giving …
From his amazing TikTok moves to claiming that immigrants were “eating the cats and dogs” of the US making a remix in the process. Our boy Trump does it all.
With a jaw-dropping 91 felony charges spread across four criminal cases, Trump has made history yet again becoming the first convicted felon to serve as President of the United States. What an achievement! Truly an inspiration to inmates everywhere, proving that even if you’re facing charges, you too can aim for the White House. The serious accusations included conspiring to overturn the 2020 election, obstructing Congress, and hoarding classified documents in places like his bathroom. In Georgia, he was facing RICO charges, a law reserved for organised crime where prosecutors need to show a pattern of racketeering activity meaning crimes that were used to further the objectives of a corrupt enterprise. This is the sort of thing Trump and his allies performed when making false statements, influencing government officials, and even forging documents. While he continues to claim it’s all “a political witch-hunt” and it was “done to damage his reputation” the reality is that Trump has turned felony indictments into a way to boost his fundraising and cement his status as a leader in the eyes of supporters. His legacy has changed from just “Make America Great Again” to also making felonies great again.
When it comes to sexual misconduct, Donald Trump has built a long and controversial reputation. Over 25 women have publicly accused him of sexual harassment, assault, and inappropriate behaviour spanning over decades from dressing rooms to boardrooms. In 2005, he was recorded on “Access Hollywood” bragging about groping women without consent. In 2023, a New York jury found him liable for sexual abuse and defamation in a civil case brought up by E. Jean Carroll. After all of this, Trump has refused to back down and continues to repeat the actions that got him sued in the first place. If there’s one thing Trump loves, its doubling down on his decisions in front of a live mic. But don’t worry because in his words it was “a made-up fabricated story” which is exactly what you’d expect from someone who spends his life denying everything from reality to lawsuits.
“No one knows more about immigration then me.”, says Donald and he’s absolutely right. From branding all undocumented immigrants as “murderers” and “drug dealers” to “terrorists” and “animals” , he ensures he is being inclusive of all but all is well because Trump promised a mass deportation pledge targeting millions of current residents regardless of community ties or contributions and even proposed to use mass law enforcement and even military power to carry our these deportations, showing what the great person he is. But he didn’t stop there, the famous influencer also posted to the Whitehouse TikTok page deportation ASMR showing immigrants in shackles being prepared to board a deportation flight with the title “ASMR: illegal Alien Deportation Flight.” The perfect ASMR to start the day.
Additionally, the instilled the travel ban or aka a Muslim ban, issue an executive order banning travellers from serval majority – Muslim countries. No no no but don’t worry it’s to keep all the Muslim terrorists out of the U.S. definitely not targeting any religion and stereotyping them.
Another one of Trumps bright moments was building a wall along the southern Mexico border. An extremely important project he spent 3.6 billion on taken from military funds without congressional approval therefore faced many lawsuits for. This was to solve the illegal immigrations because a giant wall is going to do that. Therefore, this inefficient, environmentally damaging, high cost and a symbolism of xenophobia was a great move by Donald and definitely a necessity.
From “Sharpie-gate” to bleach injections, Trump’s presidency has delivered an endless supply of jaw-dropping moments. During Hurricane Dorian, he insisted Alabama was in danger and when meteorologists disagreed, he presented a forecast map that had been doctored with a black Sharpie. Then came the COVID briefings where he went on about fighting the virus by injecting bleach into the blood stream, something completely unsupported by doctors yet people listened and all it did was cause mass panic calls to poison hotlines. And of course, there was the unforgettable brag about acing his dementia test as he proudly recited the five words “Person, Woman, Man, Camera, TV” as if it was evidence of his genius. Trump is also a genius who makes up words. In a midnight tweet in May 2017, “despite the constant negative press covfefe”. Do you know what covfefe means? Of course, not and neither does big man Trump because it’s a made-up word!! It was probably a typographical error for the word “coverage” but instead of admitting this the Trump administration said, “The president and a small group of people know exactly what he meant”. Ok buddy, because I’m meant to believe that this is a genius inside joke and not that Trump has a skill issue because of his stubby fingers being unable to press the correct letters.
Trump has frequently insulted women in crude and demeaning ways often reducing them to their appearance. In 2016, Carly Floriana who was his rival experienced this from Trump with him saying “Look at that face! Would anyone want to vote for that” and Trump can say that because he is the epitome of beauty, with a face that makes people want to vote instantly.
Additionally, Trump has made fatphobic and disgusting comments to Roise O’Donnell labelling her as “Fat pig”, “Slob” and “disgusting”. However, Donald is very inclusive and doesn’t discriminate when insulting because not only has he made fatphobic comments to women he has also made sexist comments, saying “I think putting a wife to work is a dangerous thing” because having a financially independent women is an absolute nightmare. Trump has undermined equal pay initiatives and weakened enforcement of workplace discrimination protections by removing the EEOC rule which required large companies to report how much they pay workers based on gender, race and job category. Without this data it makes it more difficult to hold companies accountable for paying women less than men for the same work.
He has also rolled back on key protection under the Title IX, especially on campus sexual assault cases. The rules gave more rights to those accused and narrowed the definition of sexual harassment making it harder for student survivors to come forward (mostly women) and be protected.
The fan base of an influencer reflects the influencer himself and their personality, Donald Trump has some pretty amazing fans that reflect him.
If you haven’t seen the Jubilee video of Medhi Hassan vs 20 far right (trump supporters) then let me introduce you to the video that has many say, “I have lost hope in humanity”.
To summarise the whole video was a combination of Trump supporters trying to defend their beliefs and getting cooked by Hassan, but I want to point out some key moments.
One participant Connor has become a viral sensation, as he opening rejected democracy in face of autocracy, proudly calling himself a fascist and making other crude remarks. Connor has since been fired from his job and has started a “GiveSendGo” page under the title Fired for my Political Beliefs so let’s all send him money guys because so he clearly deserves it after being extremely racist with other things.
Other key moments were a racist participant telling Hasan of Indian heritage that he is “not American”. Others introducing white nationalist views like that white Americans are “real native Americans” and promotion of the “great replacement” conspiracy theory.
This video obviously went viral and cause mass outrage from civil people who aren’t insane. To say that all the participants reflect Trump would be insane. Or is it? Many historians have claimed that his views reflect fascist views. From authoritarian rhetoric to disdain for democracy, from perpetuating racial fear to glorifying violence, Trump has become less of a politician and more a mirror of the ugliest impulses of American society.
And yet, somehow, he remains adored by millions. He is the influencer-president, the reality star salesman, and most of all the biggest meme of our generation. In the end, Trump’s legacy may not be his policies or even his scandals, but the fact that he turned the US into a reality show with America’s citizens as his unwilling actors.
