“For the first time in history, the world’s best dance teams will compete as professional franchises, just like traditional sports teams.” – idl.pro
The IDL is a new competitive initiative, made to grow the dance industry. The world’s best dance teams duke it out as franchises performing across cities all over the world with the desire to win cash prizes, grow fanbases and win the title of ‘IDL Champions’.
The competition is set to launch late 2025 and mid-2026; let’s have a look at the competitors. The competition has 6 globally renowned teams competing: Royal Family, GRV, Quick Style, Brotherhood, Jam Republic, and 1MILLION.
Introducing the teams:
- Royal Family (Auckland, NZL)
One of the biggest names in the game, they were made and founded by ‘Paris Goebel’ a genius choreographer who rose the ranks at light speed. Making their debut on ‘World of Dance’ RF paved their legacy by becoming 4-time world champions of the ‘World Dance Crew Championship’ (WDCC).
The Royal Family dominates the world stage with their signature style, ‘Polyswagg’—a fierce fusion of precision, power, and unapologetic attitude created by Paris Goebel herself. Their electrifying mega crews and cinematic performances have exploded across social media, racking up millions of views and leaving audiences worldwide in awe. This viral success catapulted them into the spotlight of global superstars, leading to collaborations with music royalty including Beyoncé, Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber, Jason Derulo, Ciara, Jennifer Lopez, and multiple K-pop icons—gracing stages, award shows, concerts, and music videos with their unmatched energy and style.
- GRV (Los Angeles, USA)
Hometown contestants GRV are a respected force in the West Coast dance scene, known for clean formations, and thoughtful choreography they quickly rose by smashing out competitions. Winning ‘World of Dance’, ‘VIBE’ and ‘Fusion’, and by placing second in the ‘World Hip-Hop Dance Championship’ secured their place as national contenders.
- Quick Style (Oslo NOR)
Quick Style, formerly known as The Quick Crew, is a Norwegian hip-hop and urban dance crew founded in 2006. The crew blends their multicultural aspects with Western hip-hop to create an innovative and technical dance style. Winning Norway’s Got Talent in 2009 built the crew a steady following, however they became overnight sensations in 2022 through a viral performance at the wedding of Suleman Malik, the founder of Quick Style. The 12-minute medley of classic Bollywood tracks, delivered with infectious joy and dynamic choreography, exploded online, garnering over 50 million views in its first month on YouTube. The video resonated globally for its “inclusive choreography, diverse people, and pure joy,” earning praise from Bollywood icons and turning Quick Style into household names worldwide.
- Brotherhood (Vancouver CAN)
Brotherhood is a Canadian powerhouse crew who dominated the competitive stage claiming back-to-back gold at ‘World Hip Hop Adults Division’ (2013 – 2014) to which they used as a building block to win even more titles Body Rock Champions (2015), Vibe Dance Competition winners (2017 & 2019), and a remarkable three‑time World of Dance Vancouver win (2013–2015). However, since 2020 the crew has been MIA from the competition scene sparking debate online to whether the crew would ever compete again.
- Jam Republic (Singapore, SGP)
An agency which has garnered recent global attention due to an all-female crew the agency created for a survival dance show called ‘Street Woman Fighter 2’. The members consisted of powerhouse dancers signed to agencies, from the US, AUS, NZ, & WS (Samoa). Some dancers of the crew were main members of the original royal family crew in the early 2000s, while others have experience with globally recognized battles and other dance shows. Their diverse range set them out from the rest allowing them to become viral sensations and place second in the show. Once again, the agency has created a crew which was launched in Southeast Asia to participate in the IDL.
- 1MILLION (Seoul, KOR)
A crew with the biggest influence on K-dance culture, 1MILLION began in a modest basement which then turned into a multi-level studio operation with 26 million subscribers on YouTube. The founder Lia Kim is renowned for her K-pop choreography for artists like Twice, BoA, Girls’ Generation, Sunmi, EVERGLOW and ITZY. Also, a contestant on ‘Street Woman Fighter 2’ Lia Kim led her crew to the finals of the show where the last 4 teams duked it out for the title of ‘SWF2 Winner’, where they placed third.
