My Kind of TikTok: Mac and Cheese

My+Kind+of+TikTok%3A+Mac+and+Cheese
Arjun P (Year 11)

If you’ve doom-scrolled enough on TikTok, you’ve probably stumbled upon small, niche communities specific to maybe a hundred people. The side I’ve found myself on is Mac and Cheese TikTok. What makes discovering this little group of mac and cheese enthusiasts even worse is that I’m very lactose intolerant and can’t even eat mac and cheese.

When I first joined Mac and Cheese TikTok, it was relatively peaceful. That was until @littleremyfood got involved; the once tranquil community found itself embroiled in heated battles in every comment section under these videos. I’ve never seen people fight so passionately over food. It’s even worse than the friendship-ending pineapple on pizza argument—Mac and Cheese TikTok takes it to another level.

Some of my favourite comments under these videos include:

  • “This is so interesting. ‘Her’ mac and cheese is the basic way of making mac and cheese.”
  • “She’s just lying; this mac and cheese is terrible.”
  • “Paw Patrol Mac and Cheese is better.”

While most of the comments are actually pretty nice, the further you scroll, the meaner they get. Overall, it’s actually a pretty peaceful community with cooking tips and helpful advice. However, witnessing the few people who get passive-aggressive while defending their favourite mac and cheese recipe is always interesting.
