“I swear, I was using the arrow keys to navigate Connect! I don’t even know what Tetris is, that game is for old people!”
Just this Monday, a student, who wishes to remain anonymous, was given an infringement for misuse of device after a substitute teacher caught them with their fingers frequently hovering over the arrow keys during an English lesson. The teacher in question, having spotted the dubious positioning of the student’s hand, promptly gave them an infringement, despite conflicting evidence that suggests the student was on Connect at the moment the teacher saw their screen.
The student has argued that they were using the arrow keys for the purpose of navigating the main page of Connect, as they did not have a mouse to properly scroll, and it would be more efficient than using the trackpad.
In a statement from the teacher who issued the infringement, they have argued that
“The assigned work was written… they shouldn’t have had their laptops out anyway. I don’t even know how – “
The facts here will remain subject to an independent review as the committee comes to a conclusion on the appropriate punishment for the student.
Stay tuned for more as the situation develops.
