Use of Student Images Policy
Purpose:
The purpose of this policy is to ensure that the collection and use of photographs, video and recordings of students complies with relevant legislation and William Clarke College policy.
Policy:
The following policy will be adhered to when publishing photographs, video and recordings of students onto the We Are Student Media Site:
1. Obtain consent
Before a photographs, video or recording of a student is taken or utilised, consent will be obtained. The usage of the image will be explained to the student. If a student declines to be photographed or recorded or have an already taken photo or recording published, their decision will be respected.
2. Respect privacy
The Editorial Team will avoid publishing photographs, video or recordings that invade a student’s privacy or depict them in a negative light. Personal space and boundaries will be considered when taking photos.
3, Use appropriate language
The Editorial Team will avoid using inappropriate, derogatory or offensive language when describing or captioning photos, videos or recordings.
4. Consider cultural sensitivity
The Editorial Team will be mindful of cultural and religious sensitivities when taking and publishing photos, videos or recordings. The Editors will avoid taking and/or publishing photos, videos or recordings that may offend cultural or religious beliefs.
5. Be truthful and accurate
The photos, videos or recordings and accompanying text will accurately represent the subject matter. The images and captions will not be manipulated to be misleading.
6. Storage of Images
Once taken, all photos, videos or recordings taken for the purpose of We Are usage on individual student phones or cameras will be as soon as practicable (ideally within 7 days) be transferred to a College-hosted storage location and then deleted from the device of the original image taker.
7. Follow College policies
The We Are Student Media site will attempt to follow all William Clarke College media policies regarding the taking and publishing of photos, videos or recordings (as listed on Connect).
By following these guidelines, the Editorial Team will strive to ensure that they are taking and publishing photos, videos or recordings in a responsible and ethical manner.
